Just added a video of myself reciting this on Youtube, which has been a fear of mine. If you have an extra moment please check out my first poem video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=638Y9GFvYgI
I Am Not Relative
I Am Not Relative
Look into my eyes,
Not at the lies
Beyond this disguise
Past the mask the multitude wears
That is conformity everyone shares
I am not relative
I am unique
Because of what I think
Thoughts and feelings that are my own
Bundled together as ideas, not shown
What makes you, you
Is not what makes me, me
So why think of people relatively
Not at the lies
Beyond this disguise
Past the mask the multitude wears
That is conformity everyone shares
I am not relative
I am unique
Because of what I think
Thoughts and feelings that are my own
Bundled together as ideas, not shown
What makes you, you
Is not what makes me, me
So why think of people relatively

It's so hard to see the uniqueness of others.we live in a world of me.. A lot to ponder in your words.
ReplyDeleteFabulous beat and lyrics worth heeding. Well done.
ReplyDeleteI like the use of different patterns at different parts of the poem. I think that breaking it up avoids things sounding cheesy or forced.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful truth - and a great question. I guess we all need to slow down, put down the smart phones and start with …. a smile.
